Glorification of Tulasi / Temple

Health Benefit Highlights

Swallow or Chew

German researchers have discovered that the leaves of the holy Tulsi plant contains traces of mercury. If the leaves are chewed, the mercury may damage the teeth. But when taken as a whole, the mercury is found beneficial.

Siddhis

In the Devi Bhagavatam it is written that, “One who worships Tulasi with the mantra

Om Shreem, Hreem, Kleem, Aim, Vrindaavanyai Swaahaa attains all siddhis.”

Goddess Tulasi, who dwells in the Tulasi plant will appear and grant this boon. For it is said that goddess Tulasi is a benevolent force presiding over all the lokas, or planes of existence.

Pilgrimage - Dieties - Vedas Place in Tulsi

The nineteenth century scholar M. Williams recorded that

Yanmoole sarva tirthaani yannagre sarva devataa
Yanmadhye sarva vedaascha Tulasi taam namaamyaham.

I bow down to the Tulasi,
  1. In its (Tulsi) roots are contained all places of pilgrimage;
  2. its centre contains all the deities and
  3. its upper branches all the Vedas.
“Oh Narada, wherever Tulsi grows there is no misery. She is the holiest of the holy. Wherever the breeze blows her fragrance there is purity. Vishnu showers blessing on those who worship and grow Tulsi. Tulsi is sacred because
  1. Brahma resides in the roots,
  2. Vishnu resides in the stems and leaves and
  3. Rudra resides in the flowering tops.”

(Padmapurana (24.2) Lord Shiva tells the sage Narada of Tulsi’s power)
